Photo Journal: Violet Crowned Wood-Nymph Taking A Shower
The raindrops were falling steadily when we spotted a flash of emerald green darting through the misty Costa Rican cloud forest. The Violet-Crowned Wood Nymph is pure poetry in motion, with his iridescent green body catching every droplet of light and her distinctive violet crown gleaming like a jewel against the grey sky.

This tiny hummingbird, barely 4 inches long, proves that size means nothing when it comes to commanding attention. Hovering effortlessly in the rain, wings beating 80 times per second, completely unbothered by the weather. Their needle-like bill is perfectly designed for reaching deep into heliconia flowers, making him both a stunning subject and a vital pollinator.
